How do you use a fan brush?

I often get asked how to use a fan brush like the picture above. For a long time, I used to think of it as a useless tool; but the more I became educated with makeup application the more I understood the purpose of a fan brush. I use it mainly to add a very light wash of bright blushes to my cheeks, and it also works great for removing any excess fallout after applying eyeshadow. The picture above is the one from e.l.f., but you can find similar ones at some drugstores as well as Target. The only thing is that they are pretty expensive which is why I tried the one from e.l.f., and I do love it very much.

One of my other favorite e.l.f. studio brushes that I have been using for over a year. It's the eye contour brush, and for me I find it to be a perfect (and affordable) brush to apply color to my crease as well as smudging eyeliner. It works great when applying under your lower lash line when you're doing a dramatic smokey eye.

My Favorite MAC Pigment (Naked)

My absolute favorite MAC pigment color is Naked. It's the perfect color to where in the middle of your eyelid to really bring out the brightness in your eyes as well as the other colors of shadow being used. It can also be used as a highlight for the brow bone.

I bought the Viva Glam Gaga Lipglass when I made my large MAC order that also had the Viva Glam Cyndi lipglass. The lipstick is just such a pretty pink that I had to get the matching gloss. It's a perfect duo. The color may look very bright to some of you, but it can be worn to look like that bubblegum pink color, or you can wear it over a nude lipstick to tone the shade down a bit. Don't be afraid to try on the lipstick and/or lipglass the next time you are at a MAC counter. Plus don't forget, 100% proceeds of all Vava Glam Sales goes to helping men, women and children living with HIV/AIDS.

This is one of the colors that sold out on-line very quickly, but fortunately my local MAC store still had it in stock. The color swatch on the MAC Website really doesn't look anything like it in my opinion, but I did know beforehand that it was going to be more of a light pink color. The color reminds me a bit of Well Dressed blush but with a gold pearl undertone. If you like pink blushes, I think you'll definitely like this beauty powder.

I finally purchased my first MAC Cremesheen Glass in On The Scene, and it's a really pretty peachy/coral nude color. The thing I noticed immediately was the consistency...the formula is not as sticky as the original lip glass. It feels smoother.

This is my favorite of all the packaging because I love dalmations and there are actually a couple of them on the design. The color is gorgeous too. It's a pale nude color with gold shimmer. I think it's a color that would work well with almost any lipstick. It's also the perfect color to dab just on the center of your upper and lower lips to achieve that perfect pout look.

This is the other Beauty Powder I bought in addition to Oh So Fair. This is one product I didn't think I would purchase, but I ended up doing so on-line because the others were all sold out. I was really just purchasing it for the packaging, but when I was able to see and try on the color, it actually is a very nice soft brownish nude color. I was comparing it to my MAC blush palette, and it looks very much like Buff.

I actually don't typically purchase high end mascaras. The ones I do own have always been part of a value set. If you've been following my posts, you know I love Tarte Cosmetics. This is basically an FYI post for all of you who are freelance makeup artists without a cosmetology license. You can still apply for the MAC ProCard as long as you have a photo ID and two pieces of Professional Criteria. Visit the website for complete information on the application process, but here are a few examples that would fall under Professional Criteria that are not license related:
1. Business Card with name and specific profession.
2. Program/press Materials with name
3. Professional Letter of Reference of Employment

The business card is fairly easy to obtain because you can have those made at various places like VistaPrint.com Just be sure to be specific about being a makeup artist.

A program can be from a photo shoot or wedding as long as it actually lists your name as a makeup artist.

The professional letter can be from an employer or a specific client who has their own letterhead, etc. This is something that I think gets over-looked a lot. Before I knew about this, I thought you HAD to have a license in order to apply for the discount; but it turns out that I could have had my card a year earlier than when I applied.

I hope this will help some of you who do freelance work and never thought to apply for a ProCard. 40% is a huge discount. The only times they can't be used are for Viva Glam collections and other special collections like Barbie, Hello Kitty, Venemous Villains, etc.

First Ever YouTube "Rant": Annabelle Cosmetics

I honestly don't think I've ever done a "rant" type of video in my 2 and a half years on YouTube. I just don't do them. However, this situation really bothers me so much to the point I'm actually going to talk about it here and ask for your honest feedback. Annabelle Cosmetics subscribed to me while promoting their 1000 subscribers contest. I didn't personally enter, but it was an automatic entry if you were subscribed back to them. I don't always do sub for subs, but if I like the videos then I will sub back.

5 days later, I get a private message: "Congratulations, you are one of the winners...". It was a great prize package ($75 worth of Annabelle Products). I was automatically disqualified because you have to be a Canadian resident to win. What bothers me a lot is that the company could have checked the profiles of the 10 winners before posting our names and sending congratulatory messages; my profile clearly indicates that I am from the US.

It's not so much the "getting disqualified" part but the fact that they subscribed to me while promoting their 1000 subscriber contest video and automatically entered my name. The most disappointing part is that I didn't even get an "apology"...just an "unfortunately, you don't comply with the eligibility of this contest..." message. Me (being the one) not complying just doesn't sit well in my brain.

In your honest opinion (I take constructive criticism very well, so please be honest) how would you feel if this happened to you with any company? And if any of you think this post is inappropriate, please be honest with that as well because I will immediately "delete" the post. Maybe I just needed to get this stuff off my chest.
